Conceptual design and sizing

Planform

Turn a mission requirement into a converged airframe, before a single part is drawn.

The problem it solves

Early sizing decides most of a programme's cost and performance, yet it is usually done in a spreadsheet that nobody trusts a week later. Endurance, payload, wing area and mass are traded by hand, and the assumptions behind the chosen point vanish the moment the sheet is closed.

Why it is hard

Sizing is a coupled problem. Change the battery and the mass, drag, wing area and endurance all move together, and a spreadsheet cannot hold that loop honestly. So teams freeze an early guess and discover the mistake in detailed design, when it is expensive to undo.

How Planform does it

Planform runs the sizing loop as code. Mission, aerodynamic and mass models are solved together to a converged design point, every assumption is recorded with the result, and the output is a single airframe definition rather than a number in a cell.

One airframe model

That airframe definition is the spine of the whole suite. Camber shapes its aerofoils, Spar sizes its structure, Crosswind simulates it and Downlink judges real flights against the envelope it sets.
